Gas Prices Shimmy Down

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline has continued its humble decline for the 13th consecutive day,
dropping seven-tenths of a cent to $3.877.

The average price is 4.4 cents less than one week ago, but 15.8 cents more than one month ago and 91.5 cents higher than at this time last year. The Orange County average price dropped a half-cent on Saturday.

The Orange County average price fell today for the 11th consecutive day, dropping 1.2 cents to $3.893, 3.4 cents less than one week ago but 18.3 cents more than one month ago and 92.3 cents higher than at this time last year.

``Oil prices have been quite volatile and plunged (Thursday) along with stock prices, but there's no way to know yet whether that will be significant or long-lasting enough to affect prices at the pump,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The price of a barrel of benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude on the New York Mercantile Exchange dropped $5.41 to $80.51 last week.
