Fresh & Easy to Open in Seal Beach This Month

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market will open in Seal Beach this month, making Seal Beach a pilot for a new kind of store the market is trying out.

A miniature version of the chain’s typical market, the Fresh & Easy Express store will open on PCH in Seal Beach on Leap Day Feb. 29. Between now and Feb. 8, the chain is seeking nominations for a local non-profit to donate $1,000 to at the store’s Grand opening.

Originally from Britain, Fresh & Easy bills itself as a grocery store that offers wholesome and fresh foods at low prices. The smaller express store concept is a new initiative aimed at dense, established neighborhoods such as Old Town Seal Beach. Along with Seal Beach, the chain plans to open mini-stores in Laguna Niguel, San Pedro, Hermosa Beach and West Los Angeles. The 4,320-square-foot grocery store will feature signature Fresh & Easy products, including ready-made meals, plus produce and alcohol.

The market replaces the old Jack N the Box and stand in competition to the Vons Pavilions across the street.

The store will employ approximately 20 to 30 people and hiring is already underway. Fresh & Easy staff have been manning on-site tents and interviewing potential new store employees. Entry-level jobs start at $10 per hour and include benefits and a 401(k) plan, said a company spokesman. According to a press release, “The company provides the opportunity for all employees to work at least 20 hours a week, which entitles them to comprehensive healthcare and competitive benefits. Entry-level positions pay well over the minimum wage with a potential quarterly bonus of up to 10%.”

 “We are so excited to open our doors and be a part of the neighborhood,” Cynthia Martinez, store manager said in a written statement. “At Fresh & Easy, we offer very fresh, great quality food at prices for any budget because we don’t think our customers should compromise on where they shop and the type of food they eat.”

The company markets its own-brand products as containing no added trans fats, no artificial colors or flavors, and limited preservatives
