Cost of Gas Drops for the Fifth Straight Week

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Orange County fell Sunday for the 31st consecutive day, dropping seven-tenths of a cent to $3.567, the lowest amount since Feb. 22.

The Orange County average price is 5.7 cents less than one week ago and 27.2 cents lower than a month ago but 32.7 cents more than one year ago. The Orange County average price has dropped 27.4 cents over the past 31 days, including nine-tenths of a cent on Saturday.

The decreasing prices are the result of lower demand, which is typical for the fall, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern
California.

“When gas prices fall, there tends to be a greater difference between the lowest and highest prices in most cities, so it really benefits consumers to shop around for gas prices,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “For example, according to today’s AAA.com/TripTik and TripTik Mobile app, gas prices in Santa Monica currently range between $3.48 and $3.90 a gallon, and in San Diego the difference ranges from $3.46 to $4 a gallon.”

In the Seal Beach and Los Alamitos area, the average price of a gallon of regular gas ranged from $3.39 to $3.80 this week.
