$4 Carmageddon Airfare Sells Out in Three Hours

JetBlue's $4 deal between Burbank and Long Beach sold out, but the company's 40.5 percent discount on Las Vegas flights might still be available.

It would have to be Armageddon for airline tickets to cost $4.

However, this weekend jetsetters can thank carmegeddon for JetBlue’s $4 flights between Long Beach and Burbank as an alternative to the gridlock expected from the complete closure of the San Diego (405) Freeway. It sold out in three short hours Wednesday afternoon, the airline said.

And for those commuters who want nothing to do with the congested streets of Los Angeles County this weekend, the airline is also offering a 40.5 percent discount on flights from Burbank and Long Beach to Las Vegas.

JetBlue will offer flights from Burbank to Long Beach at 12:20 and 6:35 p.m. Saturday and from Long Beach to Burbank at 1:50 and 7:55 p.m. The flights last roughly 35 minutes.

``We're helping Angelenos get over the gridlock altogether and enjoy the Valley or the beach, their favorite soccer match or a food festival, without having to brave the traffic jams to get there,'' according to Mark Rogers, the airline's Los Angeles marketing manager.

The $4 price includes taxes and fees and one free checked bag. For an
additional $1, passengers can purchase a seat with extra legroom and early boarding.

Starting just after midnight July 15, the San Diego (405) Freeway will be shut down in both directions from Getty Center Drive to the 101 Freeway for 53 hours, so that the south side of the Mulholland Bridge can be demolished.
