Yearlong Seal Beach Boulevard Lane Closures to Begin

At night this week, Seal Beach Boulevard will be closed at the 405 Freeway to prepare for a 11-month reduction to one lane in each direction.

We knew this day would come.

The Seal Beach Boulevard 405 Freeway overpass, which already takes 15 minutes to cross during rush hour, will be reduced to one lane in each direction beginning Sunday at 5 a.m.

And it will stay that way for about 11 months.

A center median will remain open solely for emergency vehicles as crews begin the yearlong process of tearing down the bridge and replacing it with a wider one to accommodate the new carpool lanes being added as part of the $277 million W

Additionally, Seal Beach Boulevard will be closed nightly starting Thursday through Saturday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., from N. Gate Rd. to Old Ranch Parkway so that crews can install k-rail and adjust roadway striping prior to the lane reduction on Sunday morning, according to the Orange County Transit Authority. Intermittent nighttime closures of the bridge will continue over the next few weeks, during bridge demolition and other similar activity.
