Three Weeks of Full Nighttime Freeway Closures to Begin

Alternating between both sides of the 405, the freeway closures lead up to the reopening of the 7th Street Bridge.

A series of full freeway closures will begin this week lasting for the next three weeks in preparation for the reopening of the 7th Street Bridge.

This week crews will begin removing the falsework from the 7th Street bridge.

  • Starting tonight through Thursday, the northbound 405 freeway will be closed from Seal Beach Boulevard to the 605 freeway between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
    RECOMMENDED DETOURS:

From the northbound I-405, exit Westminster Avenue and turn left, proceed west on Westminster Avenue, then turn right on Studebaker Road and continue north to access the northbound I-405 freeway.

Turn right on Seal Beach Boulevard, continue north on Seal Beach Boulevard / Los Alamitos Boulevard and turn left on Katella Avenue to access the northbound I-605 freeway.
  • The southbound I-405 freeway will be closed from the 605 freeway to Bolsa Chica Road between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday night, March 19, Friday night, March 22 and Saturday night, March 23.
    RECOMMENDED DETOURS:

  • Sound wall removal along the northbound 405 / northbound 605  connector (behind Martha Ann Drive in Rossmoor) is ongoing this week. While a majority of this work will be done during the day, portions will take place at night due to safety precautions. Please be advised that this work may be loud and disruptive to the neighboring community and is expected to last for approximately one week.
  • Crews moved the concrete crusher to the west segment yard by College Park West and the southbound 605 / southbound 405 connector. The crusher is used to recycle debris removed from the 7th Street bridge. The recycled material will then be used as a base for paving operations on the project. The crusher will be at this location for the next few weeks and work will take place in this location during the day between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • A dirt embankment is currently in settlement on Seal Beach Boulevard adjacent to the fire station. This earth is being settled for the future Seal Beach bridge widening.
