Security Drills May Cause Disruptions at Naval Weapons Station

Next week, the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station will take part in a nationwide security exercise to prepare the base in case of attack.

A nationwide military security exercise will begin next week, and it may cause minor disturbances around the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, which is taking part in Exercise Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2012.

The exercises, which will run Monday through Friday, may causes traffic around the base, temporary closures at Anaheim Bay, delays in accessing the base, and noise disruptions from the base’s “Giant Voice” mass notification loudspeaker.

Base officials issued a statement Monday, explaining to residents that, “The event is not in response to any specific threat but is a regularly-scheduled exercise, developed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy security personnel to respond to threats to installations and units.”

The base will be issuing live Facebook updates during the exercise, and base restrictions and Anaheim Bay closures will be listed on the 24-hour command status line at (562) 626-6000.
