Radioactive Tuna from Japan Reaches Coast

Bluefin tuna contaminated by the Japanese nuclear reactor damaged in last year's tsunami, have been found and tested for elevated levels of radioactivity off the California coast.

Bluefin tuna off the California coast have tested positive for radioactive contamination leaked from Japan’s crippled nuclear plant.

As the Huffington Post reports, it’s “the first time a huge migrating fish has been shown to carry radioactivity such a distance.”

"We were frankly kind of startled," Nicholas Fisher, one of the researchers reporting the findings online Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences told the Huffington Post.
