Abandoned at the Dog Park, Her Days Are Numbered

Unless someone adopts her, this young mastiff mix faces euthanization.

This little pup has had a tough week. Her owner abandoned her at the dog park, and now she is at the pound, facing euthanization if no one adopts her.

The Rossmoor Predator Management Team sent out this call for help Friday:

Mastiff mix, dumped at the dog park. She unfortunately didn't have anyone to take her in even temporarily, after being abandoned at the park.

She is at the Long Beach Shelter, and her time is limited, unless someone adopts this girl soon. This picture is of her from the dog park. This girl is really devastated, and they don't know her medical history yet. She is very scared, but not aggressive.

She is probably about a year and a half to three years - best guess. They think she maybe a Mastiff mix, or something like it. She is medium size. Silky buff coat, and amber eyes.

To adopt her, go to:

  • The P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center at 7700 E. Spring St., Long Beach, CA 90815.
  • Her name is "Marilyn," and she is number # A462918 Kennel 606
  • 562 570-pets or e-mail animalcare@longbeach.gov

Why didnt anyone take her to the Seal Beach animal shelter? They would have found her a home and allowed her to live. I would take her in but I already have two dogs.

I looked for her on the LB Shelters website, but she was not there. Maybe she's already been adopted?

I might be able to convince my husband that we should foster her. If there is someone not quite ready to take her home.

Thanks for the update, Paige. I hope our Patch network can find Marilyn a home.

Thank you Dorothy. Cathleen Steinbacher at steinbacherc@yahoo.com is trying to work with a rescue group to get her adopted. Cathleen said a foster home would be very helpful in saving this dog. Please email her if you can help. It is so kind of you.

Congratulations Tracy. Her picture looks like she is such a sweetheart. I just got an email response today that she is still available but I didn't have time to look into bringing her home for foster care.

Thanks for the replies, Linda and Dorothy. We went to the shelter and spent some time with this amazing dog. She's a bit wild, and incredibly strong. Too strong, in fact... for either of us to commit to the year+ of gentling down and obedience training she will need. But, Good news: she is being adopted out by a rescue, who will place her with the younger, stronger man/woman/couple that she needs. They called me to ask for her release on Thursday. Marilyn is a magnificent animal. She'll get her shot at life. Glad to have drawn attention to her, and the plight of these animals. There needs to be a law that in order to adopt any papered/pet shop animal, you need to prove you have adopted two from a shelter. This shelter is doing an amazing job. Highly recommended source for fantastic pets. God Bless them all.

I am so glad to hear that she is going to a rescue. There are so many great rescue groups with amazing volunteers. We adopted a little mama from a rescue. Her previous owners had dumped her just before she delivered puppies. Without the rescue group I don't think the city shelter could have saved her and her babies. Thank you for posting a follow up. I just wish all the animals could find the love they deserve.

This man has a rare quality, courage. Unlike the fool in office and his minions. If you thinkRead More the Constitution is a joke, you see him as bad. If you want to be spied on by your own government, Snowden is bad. Courage is missing in the states. The military have it but not the majority of our mediocre citizens.
