405 To Close Nightly in Seal Beach This Week

Here are this week's freeway closures for the West County Connectors Project.

The latest West County Connector Project update from the Orange County Transportation Authority contains a phrase that requires an Alka Seltzer chaser: “During the first 11 months of construction…”

That would be in reference to the tearing down and reconstruction of the Seal Beach Boulevard Bridge over the San Diego (405) Freeway, which is now scheduled to begin after the 4th of July and will reduce each direction of traffic to one lane for the better part of a year.

The start date remains unclear as the nearby Valley View Street Bridge will have to be completely reopened before construction on Seal Beach Boulevard can begin.

  • In the meantime, this week, there may be an extended daytime lane closure of the eastbound 22 to northbound 405 / 605 connector Saturday and Sunday. The connector will be closed Friday night and Saturday night, 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. While one lane of the eastbound 22 to northbound 405 / 605 connector will reopen at 7 a.m., one lane will remain closed until 10 a.m.
  • The northbound 405 freeway will be closed nightly between midnight and 5 a.m. through Thursday from Valley View Street to Seal Beach Boulevard. The westbound 22 / northbound 405 connector and southbound 405 / eastbound 22 connector will be closed nightly this week as well.
  • Reconstruction of the Bixby Channel and Montecito Channel (adjacent to Martha Ann Drive / Copa de Oro Drive and the 405 / 605), is ongoing and is scheduled for completion on July 1. This work will be done during the day and may be loud and disruptive to the neighboring community.
