A 27-year-old Hawaiian Gardens man is in custody today on suspicion of kidnapping after police say he tried to lure a 6-year-old child from the water in Seal Beach.
According to the Seal Beach police department, the child’s parents and other beachgoers spotted Salvador Sanchez attempting to lure the child, who was playing in the waves Friday just before 3 p.m. The child’s parents and other witnesses yelled at Sanchez until he fled, according to police.
A witness alerted the Seal Beach Lifeguards, and police located Sanchez moments later. Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and later booked into the Orange County Jail.

The Seal Beach Police Department issued a statement warning parents “to be mindful of the potential for crimes committed on the beach while they enjoy summer beach activities.”
