Haz Mat Leak Triggers Los Alamitos Evacuation

Fumes from nitric acid forced the evacuation of 150 employees at Alliance Spacesystems. Two people were hospitalized following the incident.

Two people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries today after an over-pressurized 55-gallon drum leaked nitric acid at a Los Alamitos business that makes flight hardware. 

Firefighters were called just before 1:40 p.m. to Alliance Spacesystems, 4398 Corporate Center Drive, when the the 55-gallon drum started "gassing off" the nitric acid, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Jon Muir said. 

Two people complained of irritation and were taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Muir said.
