Steve Martin and his wife have a new baby -- kind of new, anyway.
The New York Post's Page Six, which first broke the news, reports the baby was born in December.
You’re probably wondering why you are reading about it on a community website devoted to Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach news.
It’s because one my favorite pieces of local trivia is that the Garden Grove native's modest show biz birth was right here in Los Alamitos. Long-time residents remember the future comedian playing his banjo at the pizza joint he worked at – the former Shakey’s Pizza that remains vacant today on Los Alamitos Boulevard. The experience even made it into the comedian’s first album “Let's Get Small” in which Martin quips, “Hanging out with me is like being at Shakey's Pizza.”
Now back to the comedian’s bundle of joy.
"They've had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows," a source told the Post in a reference to the 67-year-old Martin and his 41-year- old wife, Anne Stringfield. "Steve's very private."
A representative for Martin confirmed to People that Martin and Stringfield had their first child but provided no details.
The actor, writer, comic and banjo player, his wife and the baby, whose name or gender have not been revealed, apparently have been spotted out near their L.A. home, according to a story posted on a Los Angeles Times blog.
