Male Models at the Pier—Filming Season Is Here

A clothing ad film shoot turned heads at the beach Monday, and a Buick advertisement closed down the Marina Bridge Friday.

Readers, Los Alamitos-Seal Beach Patch offers its profound apologies in being a day late in reporting that male models were filming at the beach by the pier Monday.

As your local editor, I can assure you that I would have told you ahead of time had I known about it. In the future, Patch will work harder to keep you informed when male models are filming in town. And with that, it’s filming season in Seal Beach!

Monday’s clothing shoot at the base of the pier was one of two filming permits taken out in the city this month. On Friday, the Marina Bridge was closed for the filming of a Buick advertisement.

February kicks off the spring filming season in Seal Beach, said Jan Sledge, Seal Beach’s executive assistant to the city manager. The city does not allow filming permits in the summer because the film crews can take up too many parking spaces and other resources needed to handle the beach crowds, Sledge said.

So location managers tend to pull filming permits in Seal Beach in the fall and spring. It is a process that can vary significantly in costs, as some permits require police and lifeguard assistance.

I have done some in-depth reporting on the subject from my couch and found that television programs such as Dexter, the Dog Whisperer and the ill-fated soap opera Sunset Beach were all filmed in the Seal Beach area, along with such highbrow films as American Pie 2. Not to be outdone, last year Rossmoor was the setting for an episode of the television show Glee.
