Long Beach Symphony Debuts Balcony Club Social Lounge

The Balcony Club is infusing an avant-garde atmosphere into the theater experience without sacrificing sophistication.

A night out at the symphony usually entails quiet focus on behalf of spectators, but that’s all about to change thanks to the new Balcony Club Social Lounge at the Long Beach Terrace Theater, set to open to the public Saturday.

Revamped into a social lounge, the theater’s balcony will bring classical music into a new era and--as the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra is hoping--to a new generation.

Guests can experience it for the first time tomorrow night as music director Enrique Arturo Diemecke conducts Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, featuring up-and-coming sensation, Haochen Zhang. The debut concert marks both the grand opening of the social club and LBSO’s 78th season.

Patrons will be now able enjoy drinks, chit-chat with one another, check their phone messages and even take non-flash pictures while enjoying performances that will also be broadcasted live on plasma screens in the lounge.

While concert-goers are still encouraged to exercise a quiet demeanor, they’ll now be permitted to enter and exit the concert hall as they wish.

The entire experience is designed to allow guests to take in the classics music in a more modern, social  setting, said Rick Berry, LBSO Director of Marketing, in a statement.

”I’m really excited about this new addition to the concert experience.” said Berry. “The Balcony Club is a great way for people to check out our orchestra without some of the barriers that people may have perceived in the past. The price is right and the atmosphere is casual and friendly. Plus, you can come late or leave early and that’s fine with us!”

Tickets for the Balcony Club Social Lounge are priced at $20, which also includes additional amenities and surprises, according to a statement by the theater.

They can be purchased online, by calling 562-436-3203, ext. 1 or at the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra Box Office, located at 555 E. Ocean Blvd., Suite 106, in Long Beach, CA 90802.
