Fun With Flags

Flags and banners are a fun way to bring pomp and circumstance to any setting or event. Use this simple craft to add a little excitement to your home.

Each week, we will post a simple and easy project for your enjoyment. This is a great opportunity for you to reconnect with your friends and family while enjoying a weekly craft night.

What You Need

  • Several Paper Grocery Bags
  • Scissors
  • Glue or Tape
  • String
  • Crayons or Markers
  • Construction Paper
  • Ruler or Straight Edge

Step 1
Use your ruler to measure and draw a triangle that is 6 inches wide and 7 inches tall. You can cut the paper bags so that you are working with a flat, single layer of paper to make this step easier.

Step 2
Decide what message you would like for your banner. Cut out a triangle for every letter in your message. You can use your first triangle as a template for the rest of your triangles. You can make extra triangles to decorate as embellishments for your banner.

Step 3
Use your ruler to draw a line across the width of the triangle 1 inch down from the shortest side of the triangle. Fold this line over and cut of the access paper edges.

Step 4
Write your message on your flags, spelling it out with one letter per flag.

Step 5
Cut out the design of your choice for your banner embellishments. In this case, hearts were cut out of construction paper. Glue your embellishments to blank triangles.

Step 6
Assemble your message and make sure your triangles are in the correct order before attaching them to the string. Glue or tape string into the crease of the triangle fold. Make sure that the string is securely glued so that the flags do not become loose and slide around once hung.

Step 7
Find a place to hang your banner and enjoy!

Use this simple craft to add a little excitement to your home and don't be afraid to get creative with your messages. For example, you can use any of the following:

  • Welcome Home
  • Congratulations
  • Will You Marry Me?
  • Happy Birthday
