The legendary Queen Mary calls Long Beach home. The 12-deck ocean liner, launched in 1936,  is open for tours, has shows, and offers shopping and dining. Visitors can enjoy overnight stays in the ship's luxury staterooms.

The Queen Mary is more than just a cruise ship, however, having carried up to 15,000 troops at a time during its war service, from 1940 to 1946. There is a historical exhibit on board detailing the steamer's military service.

There are a variety of ticket packages. General admission gets you on board to explore the ship at your own pace and includes the "Ghosts and Legends" show, the historic exhibit and an optional audio tour.

General admission tickets are $24.95 age 12 and older, $21.95 seniors age 55 and older and military, and $12.95 children ages 5 to 11.

I visited the Queen Mary by myself one day in Spring. As I wandered around I opened a door and walked (inadvertently) onto the movie set of the POSESIDIAN ADVENTURE or whatever is was called, The Director asked me to walk down the steps as they were filming!!! I did and there was Red Buttons and Shelly (cannot) remember her last name) she was knitting a baby blanket and Red was sitting beside her. I was so scared and embarrased! Long story short, the Director noticing I had a great tan, asked me if I could do another walk down like I was shopping at a jewlery store. I called my husband in Pomona CA where we lived and I was there in Long Beach to visit his grandmother, she had been sleeping so that is why I decided to go take the tour. Well, he decided I NEEDED TO COME ON HOME. It was quite a distance home, and would be driving in the dark, Sooooo, that was the end of my short chance of being in a movie. Sandy Castor

Bummer for you, Sandy! Sounds as if it would've been fun! I visited the exhibit on the British royal family recently. It was a BLAST! http://belmontshore.patch.com/blog_posts/lemonade-day-39-its-not-easy-being-queen

The model of the Queen Mary named Poseidon is over in San Pedro at the Maritime Museum. And they also used the QM2 to model the ship in the newer, remake movie... Sandy that is a great story!!!!
