Santa, Tons of Snow Landing In Los Alamitos

The inaugural Winter Wonderland at the Plaza Sunday will include real snow, a tree lighting ceremony and a visit from the jolly man himself.

While there may be rain and high surf forecasted for most of the Southland, there’s definitely snow in Los Alamitos’s future.

Several tons of it, to be precise.

The inaugural Winter Wonderland at the Plaza begins 3 p.m. December 2 at St. Isidore's Plaza at 10961 Reagan Street and will include music, games, refreshments and at least eight tons of snow for sledding and throwing.

Oh, and Santa Claus.

Put on by the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals and the Los Alamitos Recreation & Community Services Department, the free event is for “the young and the young at heart,” according to Corey Lakin, city director of recreation and community services.

“We’ll be bringing snow to everybody’s backyard, and it’ll be a lot of fun,” Lakin said.

The event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the tree lighting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Some of the sponsors include Ganahl Lumber, Chase Bank and McDonald's.
