Check Out What's Fresh at Today's Farmer's Market

The Seal Beach Farmers' Market is today.

It’s a spring break and a beautiful morning to take the kids to the Seal Beach Farmer’s Market.

Catering to the neighboring Leisure World community, the Seal Beach Farmers’ Market has a unique leisurely feel. Unlike most markets where the 8 a.m. shopper gets the choice pick of fruits and vegetables, 10 a.m. is the optimal time to shop at the Seal Beach market, which features fresh eggs, seasonal fruits and vegetables such as potatoes and apples, fresh baked pastries, honey, nuts and coffee beans. One of the smallest farmers’ markets in Southern California, the Seal Beach Farmers’ Market is characterized by personable vendors and friendly regulars.

Just about every week at the Seal Beach Farmer’s Market features fresh eggs from the Angelo’s Farms. The family farm brings locally grown organic vegetables, and the only pesticides used at the farm are made from an organic mixture of soap and chili powder.

  • 9 slices bread, torn into pieces
  • 1/2 cup diced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 16 ounces of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cups cubed cooked ham (optional)
  • 8 eggs

Layer half the bread at the bottom of a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with a layer of mushrooms and peppers followed by a layer of cheese. Add another layer with the remaining bread, and top it with the onion and ham followed by a layer of the remaining cheese. Pour a mixture of whisked eggs and milk over the strata and cover and refrigerate for 24 hours. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes with a foil cover and then remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes.
