Slideshow: Sea Turtles Move In

The Los Cerritos Wetlands Tour makes stop at sea turtle habitat.

The unusual mix of wetlands wildlife and urban bustle has combined for to create conditions that attract sea turtles to the San Gabriel River. The AES and Haynes Power plants along Studebaker Road and Westminster Avenue discharge warm water into the San Gabriel River, mimicking conditions that sea turtles like.

This weekend, local biologists and environmental educators Taylor Parker and Eric Zahn led a tour of Los Cerritos Wetlands that included a section of the San Gabriel River's green sea turtle habitat. The biologists teach visitors about the unique interplay of plants and wildlife in the wetlands and help to people to envision what could be when the wetlands are fully restored.
