Seal Beach Newspaper Staff Celebrates 100 Years of The Islander

The Islander is now run by a staff based in Seal Beach and the paper is delivered to the island every Friday.

Catalina's oldest newspaper, The Islander, is now celebrating 100 years.

"Now produced by staff based most days in Seal Beach, the paper hits the island every Friday, recording life for islanders, boaters and tourists alike over the last 100 years, ever since the people organizing the public library over there got into a spat with the editor of another newspaper, the Catalina Wireless. The Islander’s first issue, reprinted in full on Dec. 20, led with the story," according to the Orange County Register.

According to the OC Register, in the recent issues of the paper, some of the major stories include "rising visitor counts and paying too much to build a concession stand at the local field."
