Seal Beach lures In-N-Out, reality TV, Olympic stars, and Volkswagen-sized tumbleweed. Could 80s pop icons be next?

Rossmoor residents will get their In-N-Out while Seal Beach gets reality television

Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce President Erik Dreyer-Goldman cooked up an idea for a business-networking walk where the city’s movers and shakers could move about town while shaking off calories and networking at the same time. It seemed like a great idea right up until my alarm went off at 6 a.m.

But it was worth it.

When community and business leaders get together for an hour-long stroll, the newsy tidbits are good.

What did I learn?

In-N-Out Burger is coming to the Shops at Rossmoor located in Seal Beach. That’s right, Rossmoor. You are getting your long-awaited In-N-Out. The Shops officials have been coy about confirming any deals, but the deal is done, said one chamber official in the know.

Speaking of coy… a reality TV show will start filming Seal Beach this week, and that is about all I can tell you. While it might be the same production company that unleashed Snookie and The Situation upon an unsuspecting populace, this one looks to offer compelling emotional drama. Stay tuned. More details to come.

There is also a movement afoot to lure some very well known 80s pop icons to the Seal Beach for this year’s summer concert series. Dreyer- Goldman won’t release their names, but he is hopeful that they will agree to perform locally as one of them is a Seal Beach resident. All I can tell you is to keep your eyes open for a familiar face the next time you go shopping for candy on Main Street.

It wasn’t all talk on the networking walk. There were sights, too. The group got a friendly wave from a woman playing ball with her Boston terrier on the greenbelt. She happens to be one of the many Olympians training and living in Seal Beach today. The city is teaming with Olympic cyclists, including this gold-medal winner.

The walk ended where it began – at the pier. Onlookers were distracted by the sight of something the size of a small island floating 200 hundred yards off the pier.

“It was a ginormouse tumbleweed,” said Lifeguard Nick Bolin. Periodically, they make their way down the river and out to sea.

Much like the old west, Seal Beach has a bit of a tumbleweed problem.

The nextworking walk is open to the public. Walkers will meet each at the pier each Wednesday at 7 a.m.
