The Santa Ana winds are expected to blow in Monday to start October off with an elevated fire danger.
Offshore winds gusting up to 30 mph, 100-degree-plus inland temperatures and low relative humidities predicted for Monday will increase the chance of a destructive wildfire, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a fire weather and excessive heat watches for inland and valley areas through Tuesday.
Record breaking temperatures approaching 100 degrees are predicted for inland and valley areas Monday, when the offshore winds are expected to peak. The NWS urged people planning to be outdoors, or those without air conditioning, to follow these safety tips:
— wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing;
— drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids;
— avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day; and
— never leave pets, children or the elderly unattended in a vehicle
Even with the windows rolled down in a vehicle, temperatures can climb to life-threatening levels within minutes.
