Runoff Prompts Health Concerns from Alamitos Bay to Queen Mary

Authorities are monitoring the Long Beach coast for elevated bacteria and viruses from storm runoff.

Scattered rain across the Los Angeles River watershed prompted the Long Beach Health Department to conduct water tests near the Queen Mary today.

High levels of bacteria, viruses and organic nutrients are typically observed at Long Beach recreational areas, city officials have said.

Although no closures were posted today, the city Health Department was monitoring water quality along Long Beach's harbor beaches and in Alamitos Bay, the city reported.
