PETA Decries Coyote Trapping in Rossmoor

The capture and killing of coyotes in Rossmoor stirs debate.

Re: “”

Dear Editor:

Shame on Rossmoor residents for calling in a “hit man” to kill coyotes. Killing coyotes is ineffective. New groups will simply move in to fill the void, and Rossmoor will find itself in an endless, expensive kill cycle. This initiative is also very cruel. Snare traps cause immense suffering, every minute a grueling eternity for terrified victims who often include non-target animals like cats and dogs. Lucky for everyone, it so happens that the only long term approach to solving the problem of unwanted coyotes is nonlethal.   Keeping them away is as simple as leaving outdoor lights on, playing a radio, containing trash, and bringing pet food inside. Protecting pets from coyotes and countless other risks means never, ever leaving them outside unattended.
