Moonstruck

The rare supermoon bathed Los Alamitos in its soft glow Saturday night.

If you missed a glimpse of the supermoon Saturday night, Los Alamitos resident JM Ivler was kind enough to share this shot he took of the moon hanging over the city.

The full moon had just completed its closest pass by the earth in 18 years, making it appear nearly a third bigger and 14 percent brighter. The moon’s orbit around the Earth brings it as close as 221,567 miles away at perigee and as far as 252,000 miles at apogee.
