Moms Talk: Spring Break Edition

Go fly a kite. Take the kids out for a frugally fancy lunch, and take in a ball game without breaking the bank.

Fly a kite at the beach: Seal Beach has one of the best beaches for kite flying, and spring is the perfect time to go fly a kite. The sand isn’t hot, and the beach is not too crowded. Check out Up, Up and Away Kites at 139½ Main St., Seal Beach, for the perfect kite.

Go to an Angels game: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the Angels will be home against the Oakland A's.  Monday and Tuesday games start at 7:05, and Wednesday game starts at 4:05.

Take the kids golfing: You can hit a bucket of balls over at Old Ranch Country Club’s practice facility. It is open to the public. A small bucket of balls keeps my two kids busy for about an hour, and it’s only $6.

Take a Tanka Farms strawberry tour and pick strawberries: This is a guided wagon tour around the farm that takes about 1 1/4 hours. You will see how the fruits and vegetables grow, and taste some too.  You can pick and eat strawberries, as well as pick a 1-pound basket to take home. The farm is open Monday through Friday, and tours are by reservation only. Make reservations by calling 949-653-2100, Ext. 204.

Take the kids out for a fancy lunch. is a blast for kids and adults.  The chef puts on a great show throwing eggs in the air and making a flaming volcano out of onions. And the food tastes great. Lunch is a bargain. Midweek lunch prices start at $10.95 for adults and $6.95 for kids. Kobe Steak House is at Seal Beach Boulevard and the 405.

Have the kids go to camp for the day: Day camp at the Los Alamitos Community Center is $25 a day for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or $30 for 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Then maybe you can get your nails done.

Learn to shred with Skatedogs Skateboarding Camp at Little Cottonwood Park. Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $34 per day. Sign up with Los Alamitos Parks and Recreation. Click for more information.
