Los Alamitos Opens Cooling Center

The Los Alamitos Community Center is designated as a Cooling Center to offer some relief to residents during hot days.

To help community members cool off during the sizzling temperatures, the city of Los Alamitos has opened a cooling center, city officials reported Friday.

Anyone looking for an air-conditioned facility or wanting to give their home air conditioner a break, is invited to the Los Alamitos Community Center to get some relief from the heat. Designated as a cooling center by the Orange County Office on Aging, the Los Alamitos Community Center offers an air-conditioned environment Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to a city memo, excessive heat increases the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The elderly and children are encouraged to take advantage of cooling centers in order to reduce the risk of a medical emergency.

The Los Alamitos Community Center is located at 10911 Oak St. For more information, call 562-430-1073 or visit cityoflosalamitos.org.
