Light Pole Installation Continues on Seal Beach's Main Street

The project updates existing lighting that city staff found to provide an insufficient amount of light.

Crews this week continued to install new light poles on Main Street in downtown Seal Beach.

The project, which was approved by the Seal Beach City Council in March, will take down outdated concrete street lights and replace them with newer poles and globe lights.

In addition, crews said the new street lights will get rid of the power lines that criss cross above Main Street and bury them underground.

According to a March city staff report, a $454,983 contract was awarded to Flatiron Electric Group to complete the work.

The project was brought about after city staff found that current lighting along Main Street was not providing a sufficient amount of illumination. In addition, the existing street lights were not suitable for providing light around large, mature trees, the staff report stated.

The lighting project, which began in September, is expected to last until December.
