It's Finally Here: The Rossmoor Garden Tour is This Weekend

The 8th Annual Rossmoor Woman's Club Garden Tour is Sunday.

Spring in Rossmoor pops.

From carefully cultivated rose bushes to the leafy canopies, it’s hard to deny that much of the community’s charm is rooted in its landscaping. That charm may explain the growth of the annual Rossmoor Woman’s Club Garden Tour.

In its 8th year, Sunday’s Garden Tour is expected to draw more than 500 visitors to tour seven Rossmoor yards. Last year, the tour raised more than $5,000 for local causes.

“We had always wanted to get a garden tour started, but we didn’t know how to go about it,” said Georglyn Seligman, a woman’s club member. “Once we started it, people started asking us all year when the next tour will be.”

Throughout the year Seligman and other members of the club note the most striking landscapes in the community and invite the homeowners to join the tour.

“The first year we had about 150 people, and it just kept growing each year,” said Tour Chairwoman Janet Wagoner. “It’s a fun day with a purpose.”

All the net proceeds go to scholarships and local nonprofits such as Interval House, We Care, and Pathways to Independence, said Wagoner. The tour also features, fittingly, an outdoor store complete with gourmet foods, jewelry, purses, and yard and garden art.

Wagoner’s own home, featuring a koi pond, exotic plants and a “man cave” designed by Wagoner and her husband, was part of last year’s tour. Each year, the tour demonstrates a wide range of outdoor living spaces reflecting the personalities of the gardeners behind them.

“They are all different unique and colorful,” said Wagoner.

This year’s featured homes include:

  • A Gardener’s Garden by Cindy and Dave Reagan
  • Country Harvest by Leslie and Charles Mintzer
  • Tuscany Elegance by Candy and Peter Marshall
  • Whimsical Country Garden by Majella and Bull Maas
  • A Spa Retreat by Mary and Denis Trine
  • The Gated Garden by May and Alan Suding
  • Charmingly Traditional by Annette and John Farber

The tour is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, starting at 11371 Drysdale Lane. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the day of the tour or today at Designing Whims, Prep Kitchen Essentials, Elementals or Standing Ovations.
