Why go: Rock out on the sand at this free concert

Where/When: Orange County Zoo, 1 Irvine Park Road, Orange; 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday 
Why go: Children ages 3 and 4 can learn all about the sea and its residents—including sharks, dolphins and sea otters. 
Pricing: $5 for one child and one parent, $3 for parking

Where/When: Santiago Creek Nature Center, 600 E. Memory Lane, Santa Ana; 9 to noon Saturday
Why go: Learn about what native plants attract butterflies into your garden, then take a short hike to find them in the nature preserve.

Why go: Besides an entertaining movie, a local band will perform. Prizes will be given away and food is available.
