It's back to school night at Los Alamitos High School. It's your best chance to meet your kid's teachers and get the scoop on homework and homeroom happenings. And for the little ones, there is live music, livelier birds and a little bit of South American culture to spice things up.

Why go: This fun and inspirational musical revue teaches children the value of making good choices, and explores fundamental American values.

Why go: Gourmet food trucks such as Rolling Sushi and Slapfish will be selling food; plus, live entertainment, silent auction, and a beer garden.

Where/When: Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Why go: Enjoy mariachi performances, interactive music from Central and South America, kids’ crafts and face painting, ethnic cuisine, Latin cooking demos and a large number of giveaways.
