There is a rare breed of humans who consider slobbering, snoring and grunting adorable. They are called bulldog owners, and they are closely related to pug owners. The two converged by the hundreds in Belmont Shore Sunday from places as near as Seal Beach and Los Alamitos as well as nationwide for the 8th annual Bulldog Beauty Contest at the Marine Stadium in Long Beach.

Thousands of people and more than 400 dogs turned out for the event, which featured categories for English bulldogs, French bulldogs, senior bulldogs and pugs. Some dressed in full costumes, and one showed off her bulldog figure in a polka-dotted bikini, but, at the end of the day, a pretty pup named Lizie took the crown.
