A 49-year-old man was hospitalized today and his roommate was behind bars on suspicion of attacking the victim with a machete in Stanton, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
Marco Reyes, 44, who was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, was being held on $500,000 bail, according to Orange County sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock.
Authorities also placed an immigration hold on him, Hallock said.
About 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff's deputies responded to a fight in the 7900 block of Hopi Road, where the two men lived in the same residence, the lieutenant said.
When they arrived they found the victim with lacerations on his head and upper chest area and he was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he is expected to survive his injuries, according to Hallock.
Reyes was hiding in a shed on the property, Hallock said.
Alcohol may have been a factor, but further details about the scuffle remained unanswered until investigators get a chance to speak with the victim, he said.
