Movie Night, Book Club and Library Donations

1. Today from 9-10 a.m. the Seal Beach/Mary Wilson Library will host a Book Club for Adults with a discussion of a featured book. Register and pick up your copy of the selected book or audiobook at the Information Desk. Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. 2. Tomorrow at 6:30 -9 p.m. the community is invited to celebrate the end of summer with the a free movie and fall preview by the Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Departmen. The movie “The Avengers,” free popcorn and an ice cream sundae bar will be available. There will also be arts and crafts activities for the kids. Bring your chairs, blankets, and dinner and enjoy a night out. The event will take places at the Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department, 10911 Oak St.

3. The Friends of the Library is undertaking a major renovation to the entire front entrance of the Los Alamitos-Rossmoor Library. The project seeks to enhance the Library’s community outreach efforts by providing needed outdoor space for public programs, as well as addressing safety and visibility issues. 4. Whether your children take the bus to school or you drop them off directly, USA.gov is urging parents to review the basic guidelines on how to safely cross the street. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2010 nearly one in every five children between the ages of 5 and 9 who were killed in traffic crashes was a pedestrian. Remind your children to only cross the street in designated crosswalks and to look both ways before crossing. If there’s a crossing guard at an intersection, make sure to follow his or her directions.

5. Today will be foggy in the morning, but mostly sunny during the day. Highs will be around 72 near the coast, inland areas will be 83-88, according to the National Weather Service.
