Coffee Wars, Concerts and Worthy Causes: Wednesday Briefing

The Planning Commission will take on controversial plans to consider a Starbucks in Old Town, and good food, good music and good causes combine for good fun.

Concert in the Park: The Chris Anderson Group will perform at Eisenhower Park next to the pier today as the latest in the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce’s summer concert series. The concert starts at 6 p.m. and continues to 8 p.m. The crowds gather early, so bring the family and blankets and chairs before 6 p.m. to stakeout a good spot.

Coffee Brewhaha: The Seal Beach Planning Commission will consider plans to open a second Starbucks Coffee in the PCH Vons shopping center at Wednesday night’s meeting. The proposal has irked some. It would be the second Starbucks in the shopping center, and rival businesses and some residents argue that the mega-chain counters the unique vibe of Seal Beach. It’s not the first time locals have launched an effort to block Starbucks from coming to Old Town. Years ago, community backlash successfully squashed plans to open a Starbucks on Main Street.

Support the Library, Chow at Chipotle: Help support the Friends of the Library Front Porch Project by grabbing grub at Chipotle Wednesday night from 4:00pm to 10:00 p.m. Chipotle will contribute 50% to the Front Porch Project when you present a coupon from the library desk (It’s easy – the library and Chipotle are both in the Shops at Rossmoor) The Friends have achieved $45,820 of their goal of $100,000.
