If your idea of a perfect Sunday involves a surf contest in the morning followed by an afternoon of Super Bowl parties, then Seal Beach is the place to be today.

The Katin Surf Shop Seal Beach Surf Championships hosted by the Seal Beach Lifeguard Association is underway on the north side of the Seal Beach Pier.

Heats began Saturday morning with the finals taking place on Sunday.

Seal Beach south side used to be the place to go for great barrel wave during a south swell. But the city killed the waves to protect the homes - were they ever affected?, or to get rid of these young dangerous surf types that didn't have money and would kind of take over this area when the waves were good.

Money, status, mine.
