Local Guard Unit Heading to Kuwait

Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base will host departure ceremony Tuesday for 150 soldiers.

Nearly 150 citizen soldiers based in Los Alamitos are preparing to ship out for a yearlong deployment in Kuwait, according to California National Guard officials.

The Pentagon has called up the 140th Chemical Company to conduct security operations at U.S. military installations, a National Guard official told City News Service on Saturday. The unit is led by Capt. Orlando Cobos.

A departure ceremony is planned for noon Tuesday at the Veterans Services Center at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos.
