Community Puts Its Money Where Its Heart Is

The community steps up to donate $27,863 for shooting victims in a little more than 24 hours, earning a matching donation from Vons.

If the managers at Vons Pavilions thought it would take until the end of the day Monday to reach the matching $25,000 in donations for the families of the salon shooting victims, they underestimated Seal Beach.

In barely more than 24 hours, an outpouring of community support and donations netted more than $27,863 for the victims of the massacre, said Seth Eaker, a Seal Beach resident and a community liaison for the city and chamber of commerce. Vons has pledged to match up to $25,000 in donations to the families.

“I am so proud of the way this community has come together,” Eaker said. “It’s as a community that we are going to heal.”
